Energy & Environment Pathway Fellowships
Doctoral Studies Pathway in “Energy and Environment”

Washington University in St. Louis has embarked on initiatives related to Energy and the Environment (see www.eer.wustl.edu) . Students in this pathway will form a cohort of scholars that work on problems related to Energy and the Environment. Each student will have to be admitted to a doctoral program at the University. They will work on a faculty supervised project in energy and environmental research. In addition, a faculty committee* comprising of members from various Departments and Schools will review and approve selection of the candidates for admission into the “Energy and Environment” pathway.
Up to four fellowships are available to meritorious students selected as the first cohort under this program:
• Stipend (Fellowship) of $ 25,000 per year
• Additional monies of $ 5,000 per year to work on an approved collaborative research or educational project in conjunction with another doctoral student
Application Procedures
• Submit a regular application to a doctoral program through the Schools of Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Medicine, Social Work or Business; Division of Biology and Biomedical Sciences. Request financial aid to the Program.
• In addition to applying to a doctoral program, the student should submit a 2 page essay describing a research project they would like to work on. This should be submitted with the application. A copy (as an attachment) should be emailed to kcole@seas.wustl.edu. The deadline is Feb 28, 2007.
• If incoming graduate student is selected, Energy and Environmental Fellowship will be made available in the 2nd year in the Doctoral Program. Other support will be available in first year). The student will have to be selected for admission into an University doctoral program.
• Current first year students at WUStL are also eligible to apply, provided other criteria listed are satisfied.
Other Requirements
• Student will be co-advised by two faculty members from two different Departments. A list of faculty members and their research interests is available at http://www.eer.wustl.edu/faculty.asp The research project should draw on the expertise of both faculty members.
• Selected students will work in a cohort of other doctoral students with interests in the Energy and Environmental areas.
• Students will organize and participate in a monthly meeting of other doctoral students in a format to be decided to promote energy and environmental related research and educational activities at WUStL.
